IntroducingThe Newest Member Of The Gold Shoe Mafia/24 Hours in Atlanta

I feel like I have been waiting forever to meet this little dude, and finally this weekend the day came. This is Jack, my godson! (Pictured here with Sophie the Giraffe.)
We hit it off right away. After all, look at his taste in shoes. Here he is showing off a pair he found for me on the Nordstrom sale rack.
(OK, his mom Stephanie may have assisted.)
Stephanie is actually the person who introduced me to the magic of wearing gold shoes, a story that I need to tell in its full glory.
We've been through a lot together since meeting one fall day at the University of South Carolina 16 years ago. She was wearing penny loafers and I my ten hole white Doc Martens. We have since graduated to more sophisticated footwear (thankfully).
Jack was a trooper in joining us for a day of some of our favorite things -- eating Mexican food (avocado tacos at Nuevo Laredo -- yum) and power shopping. Little dude barely made a peep during our bargain hunting spree (which always includes a stop at the church of TJs). I mean, he even found these shoes. Not many guys would be such sports.
Later in the night Stephanie and I ventured out for the evening, sharing a delicious meal at Parish (sweet potato ravioli and chocolate/sea salt tart, w. a tall order of bluegrass band on the side). Even better, we got to share it with our friends Manisha (who we've also known since our freshman year and the sassy Stephanie M., who is also the mother of a newborn).
Five boys between us (including two who are just a few months old). Damn, we look good!

Then Stephanie and I went to see The Yacht Rock Review (think: tribute to Toto, Michael McDonald & other smooth sounds of the late 70s/early 80s - see video below) and for a nightcap at Johnny's Hideaway, a bar that is deliciously stuck in that time.
Stephanie and I have always had a fondness of eras that came before us, which we will certainly pass on to this next generation.
That and an appreciation for gold shoes.
